A new string type-Strings have historically been made from sheep gut. Then came steel and synthetic string making innovations. In the 1990's, composite materials are being used for the first time. This new category of string has many of the same advantages of synthetic core strings, but often an extended life span. This feature is due to less tension loss during the life of the string. Pirastro Obligato, Corelli Alliance and D'Addario Zyex are the strings with cores made of composite materials. These strings provide more consistent performance during their playing life. This factor is especially appealing to customers who claim that other strings sound their best only for the first few days after installation. You might find a satisfying sound lasts for two months or longer.
Composite core string technology is the string making technology of the future, today. Strings made with this type of construction are Infeld Red/Blue, D'Addario Zyex, Pirastro Obligato and Evah Pirazzi and Corelli Alliance, Thomastik Vision and others. This type of violin string tends to be among the most expensive. However Pirastro offers Violino, and Thomastik has Vision which are composite core, but priced for a budget.
While Thomastik Dominant has dominated violin string sales for years, the names of new string choices have fallen on deaf ears in the United States. There are many other strings on the market today that are good alternatives to Dominant. Strings are such an important factor in the tone production of an instrument, serious players need to experiment to find the optimum choice for their instrument.
For small violins we offer a broad variety of string products including; Pirastro Piranito, Pirastro Chromcor, Thomastik Dominant, D'Addario Pro Arté, D'Addario Prelude and Supersensitive Red Label, Sensicore, and Stellar. The new Evah Pirazzi and Vision strings are professional string choices available for small size instruments.
